THE HENRY RANGE

Named for Henry Estlin and Henry Jackson, both long time club members, who could both still hit the ten ring at a ripe old age, this is a federally certified and licenced 100 yard range. Surrounded by high earth berms, the range floor is protected by anti-ricochet berms.

The range is located at the intersection of Highways 19 and 19A on Chattell Road in Parksville, Vancouver Island, B.C.

The PGFG Military Fun Shoot

This event is scheduled for every third Saturday morning from 10 to noon. It is shot with military type centre fire rifles, old and new (but mostly older style), and with open sights (no scopes).  Twenty-five shots are fired at a military type target from various positions. Five extra points are awarded for wearing a helmet or a military head dress, another five for having an attached bayonet, and a further five points are awarded for the smallest five shot group. Dressing up in military style clothing is encouraged. A $3 fee is charged to cover the cost of targets, donuts, coffee, and the medals which are awarded at times for bravery in the line of fire. All shooters are welcome.

The PQFG .22 Rimfire 50 metre Precision Bench Rest Match

This shooting event is scheduled for every second Saturday morning on alternate months from 10 a.m. to 12 noon (check the website calendar for dates). All targets are provided, but a $2 fee is charged to cover the cost of the targets, staples, coffee, cookies, prizes and the occasional lunch. (The lunch fee is $3). This event is shot mainly with scoped .22 LR target rifles, as it would be very difficult to use open sights on these very small targets and from that distance. A total of 80 shots are fired at a set of eight small targets (10 shots at each target) for a total obtainable score of 800. In addition to the scoring targets, a sight-in target is also provided to set up your gun.  The only requirements of this shooting event are that you use a .22 LR rimfire rifle, follow the instructions of the range officer, and abide by all the range safety rules.

If you are interested in this shoot, come out on the day and talk to one of the co-ordinators, Alex or John. We have a good mix of shooters from beginners to experts, male and female. Everyone is welcome. This shoot was started as a 100 yard shoot in May 2000.

Muzzle Loader Fun Shoot

This shooting event is scheduled for every second Saturday morning on alternate months from 10 to 12 at the Henry rifle range. This shoot is shot with muzzle loading rifles only. Twenty-five shots are fired at a set of targets. The targets and the line of fire varies from shoot to shoot to add variety to the shoot. Knife and axe throwing are also included. If you are into black powder shooting come out and join us. Dressing up in period haute-couture is highly encouraged.
